Tensions are bubbling in the quaint village of Halkyn, Flintshire, where locals are facing a party problem! The transformation of a Grade II listed building into a £1.6m luxury holiday let, known as the Old Church School, seemed like a great idea—until the music and laughter started shaking up the peace.

The neighbours, including Guy Roberts and Cllr Fran Lister, are raising the alarm over late-night hot tub parties and tunes blasting into the wee hours. “It’s like a mini festival in our backyard every weekend,” says Guy, who’s been living next door for 46 years. His family, including his deaf father, can’t escape the noise—even with hearing aids out!

The holiday let owners say they’re trying their best to keep the noise down by installing a sound system cut-off at 11 PM. But cheeky guests are just bringing their own speakers—turning what was supposed to be a tranquil retreat into a party hot spot.

Despite efforts to solve the issue, the neighbours’ patience is wearing thin. They’ve even turned to the police and local council for help. And with peak season just around the corner, worries are mounting.

The management, Halkyn Estates Ltd, argues the conversion saved the historic site from decay, emphasising their investment and attempts to work with the community. They assure that guests are reminded to respect local peace, and insist this is their goal too—especially since the previous factory classification meant the site could have been even noisier!

What do you think? Can the village find a way to coexist with this new source of tourism? Or are earplugs the only solution? Let’s hope everyone can find some peace soon! 🌿✨
