A tragic story from Bridgend is unfolding as Michael Davies stands trial at Newport Crown Court for the murder of his wife, Tracey Davies. Although Michael admits to killing Tracey, he denies murder, claiming he was not in control of his actions. On the fourth day of the trial, more unsettling details emerged during his police interview.

Michael, aged 57, shared that on April 18th last year, he strangled his beloved wife in their bedroom between 7.30am and 8am. Emotionally, he confessed, “I loved her to bits but I didn’t seem to have any understanding over my hands. I’m not sure what I was even doing. I just wanted to keep strangling her.” Tracey was discovered lifeless on the bed, while Michael was found injured nearby.

During the interrogation, he detailed the chilling moment he placed his hands around Tracey’s neck, expressing disbelief over his actions. He claimed he experienced an overpowering urge to retrieve a knife from the kitchen and harm himself. Michael insists he never intended to kill Tracey, saying, “not at all”. He argues that his mental state was so shattered that he couldn’t comprehend his own intentions at the time.
The court has heard emotional testimonies from the couple’s daughter and healthcare experts who are shedding light on Michael’s state of mind. Today marks the fifth day of the trial, with forensic pathologist Dr Richard Martin Jones expected to provide further evidence.
