🏆 Victory for Local Young Footballers! 🌟

Great news for Skewen’s budding football stars! After a passionate campaign, young players from the Skewen Football Club have secured more space to play the sport they love. Nearly 800 supporters signed a petition urging Coedffranc Town Council to make this dream a reality.

The heart of the issue? The club needed more room at Skewen Memorial Park to accommodate 250 junior players seeking a permanent base. While they had access to a regular pitch, the club requested use of the “lower field” for weekend games. Originally a “free-to-all” zone, the council initially rejected the club’s plea, citing potential ecological benefits and community access.

But persistence paid off! At a recent meeting, following constructive discussions with Skewen Cricket and Football Club representatives, the council agreed to reinstate a junior football pitch. Starting soon, this area will be available for hire by junior teams on weekend mornings, while remaining open for public use at other times.
Skewen Park, cherished for its lush landscapes and community amenities like playgrounds, a pool, and tennis courts, is about to become even more vibrant with the sounds of cheering young players.
Hats off to the Skewen community for coming together and scoring a win for local youth sport! ⚽️👏 Do you think this is a great way to support local talent? Let us know in the comments! 🌱🌿
