Heartbreaking news from Bridgend where a local shopkeeper was left traumatised after a disturbing incident at the Spar on Ewenny Road. Just another day at work turned into a nightmare when Carl Jubin, initially there to purchase a vape, turned violent.

After being sold the wrong e-cigarette, Jubin returned in a fit, swearing and making threats. He didn’t stop there. Minutes later, he forced his way behind the till, pushed the shopkeeper to the ground, and left her with burns and bruises, saying, “I only want this one,” before taking a vape. The shock of this attack has left her feeling extremely nervous and vulnerable, forcing her to rethink even a simple late shift.

Jubin, who was arrested the next day, admitted to the robbery and is currently serving a two-year sentence. Despite expressing remorse and addressing his drug issues, the damage was done. The incident highlights the essential need for shopkeeper protection, especially in times like these.
A reminder of the bravery of those who stand behind the counter every day – let’s support our local heroes. Stay safe out there, everyone!
