A local convenience store in Llanrumney, Cardiff, is facing serious penalties after getting caught selling illegal vapes and dodgy tobacco products. 😲 A joint investigation by Shared Regulatory Services found that the Mini Mart Store, run by Aydin Ltd, was selling vapes with tank sizes that exceeded legal limits and counterfeit tobacco.
The Cardiff Magistrates’ Court wasn’t impressed! The store has been hit with a whopping £16,000 fine, with an additional £4,600 in costs and a £2,000 victim surcharge for their actions. That’s over £20k total! 📉
Rostam Ahmed, the director of Aydin Ltd, admitted to 16 offences and is now serving a 12-month community order. This includes a 10-day rehabilitation activity order, and he’s also facing a £500 fine, plus additional costs.
All illegal stock seized from the Mini Mart is set to be destroyed. This isn’t the first time the store has been in hot water—it was previously under a closure order for its dodgy dealings becoming a public nuisance. 😬
Councillor Ed Stubbs made it clear: “Selling illegal tobacco and vapes harms public health and disrupts legit business. Trading Standards will crack down on lawbreakers!”
