Big news for Gwynedd! The council is gearing up to challenge a High Court decision about second homes. 🏠 Cyngor Gwynedd was the trailblazer in Wales, introducing a rule known as Article 4 Direction. This requires planning permission for any second homes or holiday lets—a move made to ensure locals can still afford homes in their own communities.

However, not everyone is happy with these new rules. A group called People of Gwynedd Against Article 4 (PGAA4) have been fighting back. They believe these restrictions could mess with the housing market, and they managed to raise a whopping £73,000 to challenge the council’s decision.

After a High Court review, a judge allowed the campaigners’ case to move forward, claiming the council’s cabinet may have been “misled” about the changes in the planning rules.
But it’s not over yet! Cyngor Gwynedd is ready to appeal to keep these regulations in place, with the Article 4 Direction still active for now. Councillor Craig ab Iago stressed the importance of ensuring Gwynedd’s residents can access decent housing, highlighting that a staggering 65% of locals were priced out of the market.
“It’s about fairness,” says Councillor Nia Jeffreys, leader of Cyngor Gwynedd. The aim is to give the council more control and make decisions that benefit the community.
