Sad news for EastEnders fans – Jamie Borthwick, who played Jay Brown for an incredible 19 years, has left the show. BBC Studios confirmed that he won’t be returning to Albert Square. This follows a suspension months ago for making an offensive comment about people with disabilities. He was caught on camera during a Strictly Come Dancing event using a derogatory term that sparked outrage. The comment was slammed by the BBC as “entirely unacceptable”, with the organisation insisting they uphold certain values and standards.

Jamie, only 31 and already a soap legend, won a British Soap Award early in his career. He apologised after the incident, expressing deep regret and emphasising that his actions didn’t reflect his true views. He described his excitement during the moment, but admitted that it was no excuse and conveyed his genuine embarrassment over his remarks.

Add to this, there was another hiccup during his Strictly stint. Rumours swirled about him and opera singer Wynne Evans sharing an inappropriate video during the live tour, striking a nerve with BBC higher-ups. This culminated in Wynne being dropped from the tour altogether.
It’s a disappointing farewell for Jamie, who joined EastEnders back in 2006, but he’s left a memorable mark on the show. We’re sure fans will keenly await his next move. Thoughts, everyone? Can you remember your favourite Jay Brown moment? Share your thoughts below!
