Remembering Lord Menzies Campbell 💔✨

Tributes are flooding in for the incredible Lord Menzies “Ming” Campbell, former leader of the Liberal Democrats, who has sadly passed away at age 84. Known not only for his political impact but also his life as an Olympic sprinter and a highly respected lawyer, Ming left an indelible mark on many.
Scottish Lib Dem leader Alex Cole-Hamilton fondly recalled his early days on the campaign trail with Ming and described him as a mentor and a cherished friend. “From the Olympic track to the benches of Westminster, Ming’s contributions to public life are unforgettable,” he shared.

Former PM Gordon Brown highlighted Ming as a compassionate leader who championed social justice and cooperation. He reminisced about their work together across party lines, cherishing their friendship.
Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney also expressed sorrow, praising Ming as a distinguished figure who consistently worked for a better Scotland and beyond. Russell Findlay, Scottish Conservative leader, echoed these sentiments, acknowledging Ming’s integrity and dedication.
The Scottish Liberal Democrat’s legacy stretches further than politics, deeply impacting communities and individuals alike in North East Fife, his constituency for nearly three decades. Even after retiring, Ming’s voice resonated through the House of Lords, demonstrating his relentless commitment to public service.
Ming was a chancellor, a trailblazer, an esteemed voice on foreign affairs, and many say the best foreign secretary the UK never had. He recently endured the loss of his beloved wife, Elspeth, yet remained an active and passionate contributor till the very end.
Wendy Chamberlain, MP for North East Fife, and Willie Rennie, former Scottish Lib Dem leader, both echoed the sentiments of many: Ming was a shining guiding light, forever leaving an impact of reason, compassion, and internationalism.
Rest in peace, Ming—an exceptional life, warmly remembered. 🌟🏴
