In a major move, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is set to close around 150 of its stores over the next couple of years, following a detailed review. With rising costs and changing shopping habits, BHF says some stores have become “financially unsustainable.”

By the end of March 2027, about 90 shops will close, with the remainder shutting by March 2028. This decision is part of a wider plan to ensure BHF’s retail network can continue funding critical research into cardiovascular disease, a leading cause of death in the UK.

Dr Charmaine Griffiths, CEO, expressed the organisation’s deep appreciation for the hard work of its staff and volunteers. She acknowledged the challenging times for affected colleagues and volunteers, emphasising their crucial role in the charity’s mission.

Chief Commercial Officer, Allison Swaine-Hughes, reiterated that while these decisions are tough, they are essential for a sustainable future, allowing BHF to continue its life-saving work.

Don’t worry, though! The charity will still operate a national network of shops and an online presence, including selling on eBay and their website. You can keep shopping and donating items as usual while affected shops remain open. After the closures, donations will still be accepted at nearby locations and through various convenient options like donation points and home collections in some areas.

Stay tuned for further updates, including the specific locations of affected shops, which will be shared once all employees are notified.
