Exciting news from South Wales! A massive new data centre is being proposed just off the A4119 at Mwyndy Cross near the M4. Plans have been submitted for an 18,220-square-metre facility complete with all the necessary amenities like access roads, parking, and state-of-the-art sustainable drainage systems. The proposal, led by Maska Group Limited, also includes a three-storey office block and energy plant, promising a boost in employment and development in the area.

Why is this important? The push for more data centres comes as the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) grows. With over 500 data centres in the UK already, there’s still a need for more capacity to keep up with global trends. Google has highlighted that without more data centre capacity, the UK could be left lagging in the AI revolution. The new development in Rhondda Cynon Taf aims to bridge this gap and is considered part of the country’s “critical national infrastructure.”

Strategically located for optimum connectivity, the Mwyndy Cross site has been identified as perfect for such a centre. Anticipated growth in the data field could see global demands rise by 20% annually until 2030. This new centre could play a pivotal role in meeting that demand, paving the way for future technological advancements and further investments in the region.
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development and what it means for our local community!
