Dean Berg, 49, has been sentenced to 40 months in prison following a brutal attack on his partner in her Swansea home. The court heard that Berg, in a sudden fit of rage, headbutted and throttled his partner before threatening her with a knife. The victim, who sustained serious injuries including a collapsed lung and a fractured shoulder, suffers ongoing trauma from the attack.

Surprisingly, Berg refused to attend his own trial and was unrepresented at his sentencing via videolink. When asked if he had anything to say before sentencing, his only response was a dismissive “Not really.” A disturbing history, Berg has nine previous convictions, including several for violent acts against women.

Judge Catherine Richards highlighted the “unpredictable” nature of Berg’s behaviour and noted his complete lack of motivation to reform. As a result, Berg must serve half of his sentence in custody before being eligible for release on licence.
