A tense standoff unfolded at a Cardiff Job Centre after Rhodri Hewings, 26, caused chaos over not being allowed to bring his bike inside. Frustrated and late for an appointment, he began shouting at staff, accusing them of favouring immigrants. The drama escalated as Hewings blocked the doors with his bike and his head, preventing the centre’s lockdown.

Witnesses reported him shouting insults and threatening a security guard with ominous promises. His erratic behaviour terrified staff, forcing them to exit through a back door until police intervened. In court, Recorder Greg Bull KC condemned his actions, emphasising that no one should face such distress while working. Hewings received a 12-month community order and must complete a rehabilitation programme. Despite health issues and a challenging past, including prior convictions, Hewings has now secured local housing. This incident highlights the critical need for respect and calmness in public spaces.
