Police were left baffled when a man’s attempt to munch on a Kinder egg at a Cardiff police station turned out to be far from sweet. Amenye Mwandoje grabbed attention not for the chocolate treat but for what was inside – eight bags of cocaine! Things got more intense when officers searched his car and home, discovering more cocaine, all worth a total of £600, and nearly £1,000 in cash.

The drama started back in March 2024. Mwandoje, cruising in a blue Nissan Micra, was stopped by police who had a tip-off about possible drug dealings. During the stop, officers found £940 in cash and a phone buzzing non-stop. But it was at Cardiff Bay police station where the real surprise unfolded. A suspicious orange Kinder egg that Mwandoje was trying to swallow turned into Exhibit A, unveiling his illegal dealings.
In court, it was revealed that Mwandoje, a 25-year-old from Cranbrook Street, Cathays, had no previous convictions. He confessed to intent to supply class A drugs. His lawyer shared his story – a bright student whose educational path got derailed by the pandemic, leading him down a dark path with drugs and debt. But there’s a silver lining; he’s turned his life around, staying clean and volunteering while being a dedicated dad to two kids.

The judge saw Mwandoje as a small player in the world of drug dealing, handing him a suspended 18-month prison sentence, along with 25 days of rehabilitation and 160 hours of community service. Despite his mistakes, Mwandoje has another chance to rebuild his life and seize better opportunities ahead.
