🎱 Mark Williams’ Bold Stance Ahead of Snooker Worlds 🎱

Welsh snooker legend, Mark Williams, is gearing up for another shot at glory at the World Snooker Championships. But he’s opened up about a challenge off the table: his eyesight. At 51, Williams admits that his hopes hinge on his vision holding up. “If it goes wrong, that’s the end,” he candidly shared, pointing out how TV glare has ended careers before, like former player Anthony Hamilton’s.

Hailing from Cwm, near Ebbw Vale, Williams last clinched the world title in 2018—and though he nearly became the oldest finalist last year, he was thwarted by Chinese star Zhao Xintong. Awaiting surgery, he’s uncertain when he’ll fix his eyes, recalling struggles with “the yips” during the Tour Championship in Manchester, only adding to his plate.
Despite setbacks, Williams remains fiercely dedicated. After setting records last year by becoming the oldest to win a ranking event at 50, he’s driven to see where he stands at 55. “I’m still fighting. I’m still trying,” he reflects, recalling his journey from an eight-year-old passionate about snooker to a world-travelling player.
This weekend, Williams takes on qualifier Antoni Kowalski. He knows his chances for a fourth world title lessen with age, but his resolve is unwavering. “I’d do anything to get another title,” he admits, but he also embraces the joy of the game. “Travelling the world playing snooker is a blessing. You can’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
As he readies for The Crucible, Williams acknowledges its unmatched atmosphere, saying, “It’s the home of snooker.” Whether he claims victory or not, Mark Williams remains an icon of determination and passion on the snooker stage.
🎱 Let’s cheer on this snooker legend as he takes on the world again! 🌍 Keep fighting, Mark! 💪
