A couple, Ionela and George Filip, are facing serious accusations at Cardiff Crown Court, as the trial unveils an alleged scheme where young Romanian women were trafficked into the UK for prostitution. The court heard that from 2015 to 2022, the couple orchestrated this operation across places like Cwmbran, Aberdeen, and Wolverhampton, reportedly making tens of thousands of pounds.
Ionela, 34, is described as having played a key role, allegedly setting up provocative ads and managing online accounts to promote the business. She is also accused of managing finances, depositing large sums into her accounts. Although she denies any wrongdoing, others involved, including her husband and two more associates, have already admitted to charges related to trafficking and controlling prostitution.
The prosecution argues that even if the involved women weren’t under duress, the criminal activities executed were extensive and profitable. Ionela currently faces multiple charges including conspiracy to control prostitution and transfer of criminal property.
