🎨✨ Introducing Pontrhydyfen’s latest gem! 🎉 An incredible mural of Welsh film star Ivor Emmanuel has just been unveiled on the side of The Colliers Arms pub, and it’s already turning heads. Known for his unforgettable role as Private Owen in the 1964 classic “Zulu,” Ivor is forever cherished in our hearts.

The mural beautifully depicts Ivor in the iconic red tunic from the film, alongside the stirring words, “Men of Harlech stop your dreaming, can’t you see their spear points gleaming. See their warriors’ pennants streaming to this battlefield.” It’s a tribute that truly captures his legacy and our local pride.

The artwork is a creation of Pontrhydyfen’s very own community spirit, brought to life by the Burton Bont Festival Group. This passionate team has been celebrating the village’s rich history since 2023, previously marking the centenary of Richard Burton and preserving heritage like the oak war memorial.
Artist Dave Nash, also known as ‘Gnasher’, worked his magic to make this vibrant mural happen in just three days. His passion for large-scale art has seen him create masterpieces for the likes of Marvel and West Ham United. His commitment to bringing Ivor’s essence to life here in Pontrhydyfen is nothing short of amazing.
Andrea Edwards, chairwoman of the festival group, expressed her joy at the overwhelming response, noting an astonishing 120,000+ views online. “Ivor holds a special place in people’s hearts locally as he came back to the village. His family has been really supportive of anything we’ve done,” she shared.
This mural is more than just art; it’s a piece of our community’s story, celebrating a beloved local hero and bringing us closer together. If you’re in the area, pop by and experience this remarkable tribute. 💫🎬
