Three young entrepreneurs are breathing new life into a beloved mountain lodge in the Afan Valley! Afan Lodge, a hub for walkers and mountain bikers, has reopened under the vibrant leadership of George Rutter, and local brothers Joe and Alfie Tomalin-Reeves. This historic spot, which dates back to the 1960s, was once a miners’ institute and even a stage for legendary actor Richard Burton’s first play. The trio saw its potential and pounced on the opportunity to revamp it.

The lodge is nestled near Glyncorrwg Ponds Mountain Bike Centre and surrounded by stunning forestry and trails, making it a perfect spot for adventurers. With a fresh new look, you can now visit Afan Lodge on weekends for a taste of local charm and delicious eats. Toasties, sandwiches, and local brews are already on the menu, and plans for hearty Sunday roasts are on the horizon!

George, Alfie, and Joe are no strangers to hard work. They’ve already made a name for themselves with their successful shop-fitting company and are ready to pour that same energy into this cherished valley landmark. Their commitment to sourcing local ingredients and drinks makes this place a true celebration of all things Welsh!

It’s more than just a hotel—it’s a community space. “This is a place for locals to have a drink and a meal, for mountain bikers, and to boost tourism,” Alfie explains. The lads want Afan Lodge to be the heart of the valley, an open door for everyone.
And they’re not stopping there! Big plans include soup-up outdoor spaces complete with a glass pergola to showcase the view. There’s talk of wellness retreats and possibly even an Afan Valley festival. It’s all about bringing people together, showing off the natural beauty of Port Talbot, and giving back to the community they love.
Pop by Afan Lodge, enjoy a freshly brewed Hard Lines Coffee, and see why the locals cherish this revitalised gem. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, the welcome mat is always out. Cheers to new beginnings! 🌟🚵♂️🏞️
