It started with tiredness and a cough, but turned into something much more serious for Sophie Zenonos. At just 28 years old, Sophie found herself gasping for air just climbing the stairs, even though she was a regular at the gym. After being told multiple times she likely had a chest infection, her symptoms took a dramatic turn. A severe coughing fit left her blue-faced, prompting a desperate visit to the GP that led to a shocking discovery—a large tumour in her chest linked to stage four Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Like many, Sophie felt “fobbed off” by multiple doctors and A&E visits, only to eventually uncover a severe condition. Despite the frustrations and nine months wait for a solid diagnosis, Sophie stayed persistent. “I was frustrated that it had taken so long,” she admits, “but also relieved to finally have an answer.”

Following aggressive treatment—six rounds of chemo and 20 radiotherapy sessions—Sophie was declared free from blood cancer in May 2021. But just as life started to settle, she was hit with another blow: thyroid cancer in late 2023. Surgery and further treatments are battling the stubborn cancer, but Sophie is determined and staying strong.

Her journey has turned Sophie into a passionate advocate for listening to your body and pursuing second opinions if you suspect something’s wrong. “You’ve got to persevere with it,” she advises. “Especially if you’re young and seemingly healthy, but that gut feeling nags at you.”
Sophie’s courage highlights the importance of recognising symptoms and seeking medical help persistently. Her story is a reminder not to shrug off what your body might be trying to tell you. Stay vigilant, stay strong, and push for the answers you deserve. 🌟
