Just days before Christmas, the Jones family of Briton Ferry suffered a devastating flood that wrecked their home. Catherine and Robert, along with their young children George and Emily, saw their personal treasures, including precious photo albums and Christmas decorations, destroyed as water rushed in, reaching up to two feet high. The family’s Christmas spirit was drowned as cherished ornaments and toys were lost.

With their home set to be uninhabitable for four months, they’ve been temporarily staying in a hotel. But in a heartwarming turn of events, the local community has rallied around them in an incredible show of support. A GoFundMe started by Catherine’s colleagues at Haven Home Care, where she’s been a dedicated carer for seven years, has raised over £1,000 to help them through this challenging time. Her colleagues opted to donate funds from their Secret Santa to the family instead, showing just how cherished Catherine is.
Jamie Broben, Catherine’s boss, describes her as someone who always puts others first, and now the roles have reversed as her community steps up to support her. Not only have they raised funds, but they’ve also secured a free Airbnb for the family for the next month. And to make the holidays a little brighter, friends and neighbours are ensuring a Christmas tree awaits them at the Airbnb, with plans to gather presents for George and Emily.

Catherine, overwhelmed by the love and generosity, expressed her gratitude, noting that she’s amazed by the kindness pouring in. She believes it’s the support from those around her that will help her family navigate these difficult times.
Despite the chaos, the Jones family is wrapped in the warmth of their community, proving that even in the darkest moments, kindness and solidarity can light the way. 💖🎄
