Life changed dramatically for six-year-old Sienna from Aberdare when a simple eye appointment unveiled something no parent wants to hear: a brain tumour was robbing her of her sight. Just weeks before, she was bubbling over with excitement after receiving Disney World tickets for Christmas.
Her mum, Emma, recalls the typical day when it all started: Sienna was just using her tablet, but something felt off. She booked an eye exam, hoping for the best but bracing for the news that followed. The swelling on Sienna’s optic nerve revealed more than just bad eyesight. A brain scan confirmed a tumour, leading to immediate treatments at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital, where Sienna bravely underwent surgery and started a gruelling 18-month chemotherapy journey.
Despite losing her eyesight, Sienna’s spirit remains unbroken. She’s still the joyful little girl who laughs and plays, filling her family’s days with hope. Her parents, Emma and Amy-Leigh, are overwhelmed but grateful for the endless support from the hospital staff, schools, and their loving community.
Sienna has a Grade 1 glioma, which, though slow-growing and benign, has made ordinary moments challenging. Yet, she stays remarkably positive, inspiring everyone with her resilience. Her dad describes her as a “happy, bubbly” child who amazes the nurses with her cheerful nature even in the toughest times.
There’s still hope that Sienna can experience the dream trip to Disney World, but travel insurance issues due to her diagnosis now stand in the way. Her family’s determined to make it happen and has launched a GoFundMe page to cover the costly insurance and ensure Sienna gets the royal treatment she deserves at Disney. Funds will also support Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House for their incredible care.
