Mountaineer Rescued After Plunging From Welsh Peak’s Precipice

🎒⛰️ Hair-raising moments on Wales’ Tryfan mountain! Over the weekend, an adventurous climbing trio faced a real test of grit and resilience. It all happened at the notorious Gashed Crag route when the lead climber took a dramatic 30-foot plunge past the belay point. 😧 But fear not! Thanks to quick thinking, the skilled belayer managed to stop their descent, though not without enduring severe rope burns.

The heroic catch left the belayer unable to continue, triggering an urgent call for help. 🚁 Amid challenging wind conditions, a Coastguard helicopter bravely attempted to assist but had to take a different approach due to the tricky location and climbers nearby. Instead, Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team sprang into action, deploying six of their best up the slope to reach the stranded group.

🏔️ With a technical rope system, the climbers were safely raised to South Ridge, ensuring all were secure. The team reported: “Despite the scare, the leader emerged unscathed, thanks to the incredible effort of the belayer who heroically held their fall.”

And for the grand finale? The belayer, sporting a “hands-up” descent, was lowered with a confidence rope, pulling off an impressive, albeit unintended, ‘victory’ pose! 🙌

Big thanks to all the rescue teams involved. Here’s to courage and teamwork on the mountains! Stay safe out there, folks. 😊
