ποΈ Exciting wildlife news from Wales! A bird species thought to have vanished from Britain 600 years ago has been spotted strutting its stuff on the Welsh border. The majestic white stork, standing impressively at 3ft tall, was photographed chowing down on some grubs near a busy road. Once a regular sight across England and Wales in the 1400s, these striking birds began their comeback in 2020, thanks to a major rewilding project.

Andrew Fusek-Peters, a wildlife photographer, captured this stunning moment and was amazed to see the bird, especially at this time of year. Typically, these storks should be sunning themselves in Africa during winter. With no identifying ring, some experts believe this could be one of the first white storks born wild in Britain in centuries!
The sighting has certainly created a buzz among bird enthusiasts and local wildlife fans. Once the pride of medieval banquets and folklore tales, the stork symbolises rebirth and new beginnings. It’s fantastic to witness the return of this iconic bird to our landscape. π¦β¨

These birds are known to build enormous nests in tall trees and have always had a special place in cultural tales, often depicted delivering babies in folklore. This sighting could be a sign of more stork adventures to come, as projects aim to restore stork populations in southern England by 2030.

Let’s hope this rare and exciting sighting is just the start of many more to come. Keep your eyes peeled, and who knows, you might spot one gracing the skies near you! πΈπΏ #WildlifeWonder #BirdSpotting #NatureComeback
