A shocking scene reminiscent of a film played out in Cardiff, leaving neighbours in disbelief. A group of men, described as “animalistic,” ambushed a driver and attacked him with a baseball bat in broad daylight, right in front of locals and their children. The terrifying attack was reportedly an act of revenge over a stolen e-scooter and has left the community rattled.

Tristan Turner, 27, along with three others, were seen pursuing a Ford Fiesta through a housing estate in St Mellons on June 12. As the car stopped, the masked men leapt out, terrorising Coley Whatley and his passengers. While Mr Whatley’s passengers managed to flee, he was trapped, enduring blows through the car window.
In dramatic footage shown at Cardiff Crown Court, the attack unfolded amid screams and crying children. Turner didn’t just target Mr Whatley; he aggressively damaged the vehicle too, swinging a baseball bat, smashing mirrors, and leaving a trail of destruction. Despite the chaos, Mr Whatley managed to escape, seeking refuge in a nearby house, as the attackers made their getaway.

Prosecutor Byron Broadstock revealed the aftermath: a bruised face and swollen jaw for Mr Whatley, while Turner was soon identified and arrested. With 26 prior convictions, Turner claimed the incident was spontaneous, not planned.

Judge Vanessa Francis expressed her horror at the “public, brutal” nature of the attack, condemning Turner to two years behind bars. The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting a tragic detour from Turner’s younger years into a path marred by crime and drug use.
Stay safe, Cardiff!
