Public Health Wales (PHW) is urging parents and carers to maintain strict hand hygiene with their kids. The key? Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water—especially after using the toilet, changing nappies, and before eating or preparing food. 🧼🤲

PHW is probing various potential sources of the infection—including infected food and overseas travel. No definitive source has been pinpointed yet, but they’re working hard to prevent further spread in the local area.

Hepatitis A, a virus affecting the liver, usually results in a mild illness that people recover from fully. The infection in Barry, linked to three households, appears to be spreading locally. Thankfully, those affected are getting care and are on the mend.

In a proactive move, PHW has offered vaccinations to those in close contact with infected individuals. If you haven’t been contacted, you don’t need a vaccine unless you’re travelling to a high-risk country.

Stay alert for symptoms such as fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, or yellowing skin and eyes. If you’re concerned, contact your GP or NHS 111 Wales for advice.

Let’s keep our community safe—wash those hands thoroughly and often! 💦
