Sad news for the film and local community – former Newcastle actor Jason Hoganson, known for his role in the 1987 movie “Empire State,” has passed away at the age of 55. Hoganson’s life was a rollercoaster, marked by early success in Hollywood and subsequent struggles with crime and personal demons.

In recent years, he had a tumultuous life post-acting, with run-ins with the law including an 18-month sentence for attacking his ex-partner. Released from prison early in a bid to tackle overcrowding, his troubles continued, tragically culminating in further arrests. Despite the challenges, Hoganson was known for his portrayal of Pete, a Geordie drifter, in “Empire State.”

Sadly, his journey ended abruptly on April 4th, and his funeral is set for April 28th at West Road Crematorium in Newcastle. His story is a poignant reminder of the highs and lows life can bring and the enduring impact of early choices. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
