🚗 Learning to Drive Shouldn’t Be a Nightmare! 🚗

Residents of the picturesque Welsh village of Miskin aren’t having the peaceful life they once knew. Known as the ‘easiest place’ to secure a driving licence, Miskin has become a hotspot for learner drivers from across the UK. With eager learners driving in from London and Manchester, locals claim their roads now feel like an obstacle course and a “nightmare.”

Local business owner Dudley Newbery, who runs The Miskin Arms pub, says the swarm of learners has turned the village roads into chaos. Meanwhile, retired engineer Selwyn Davies witnesses learner drivers constantly practising parallel parking on his narrow street, causing traffic jams and sometimes dangerous driving from frustrated regulars.
The buzz started online about the straightforward routes offered by the Llantrisant Test Centre which, while named after the nearby town, is actually nestled closer to Miskin. It has a slightly higher pass rate than other test centres, making it seem like an attractive option for test-takers from far and wide.
While some like Femi Genebi, a student from Cardiff University, find the area a perfect spot to practise, others are frustrated by the traffic disruption. Matthew Reid, a local tattoo artist and former driving instructor, notes the unusual influx of learners but admits the driving standards aren’t terrible.
Despite the locals’ complaints about congestion and safety concerns, both the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency report no significant rise in test numbers or complaints. Some argue that while Miskin may not be the easiest place to pass, it surely is one of the easiest places to book a test.
What do you think? Should the village roads become more regulated, or is it all just part of the journey for learner drivers? Share your thoughts! 📣
