Heartbreaking news from a nursing home as a care worker has admitted to falsifying a statement. Prabina Thapa, 37, from Cardiff, faced court and admitted her wrongdoing after an 84-year-old resident, Shirley Froggett, suffered a broken leg from a fall due to an unsecure wheelchair. Sadly, Shirley passed away weeks later from pneumonia.

Thapa, along with colleagues Nakeeba Akhtar, 33, and Amar Muneer, 47, pled guilty at Derby Crown Court. Muneer, based in Burton-on-Trent, admitted to neglect as a nurse, while Akhtar, from Stoke-on-Trent, joined Thapa in admitting to perverting the course of justice by making false statements.

The managers of New Lodge Nursing Care Ltd had been fined previously for not ensuring safe care. While none of them are charged with causing Shirley’s death, this marks a significant moment for her family seeking justice.
Elaine Froggett, Shirley’s daughter-in-law, shared a heartfelt statement expressing relief at the guilty pleas and stressed the importance of staying vigilant for loved ones in care. After seven painful years, she feels some closure, hoping Shirley’s soul now rests in peace.
The court will sentence the defendants in February 2026, and they currently remain on unconditional bail. This case is a poignant reminder of the responsibilities held by care providers and sends a strong message urging families to remain watchful and advocate for vulnerable relatives.
