A former Gwent Police officer, Luke Silver, is currently on trial at Cardiff Crown Court, accused of making “sexually explicit and unwanted comments” to women he met in the line of duty. The 34-year-old denies these allegations and maintains his innocence.

The prosecution claims Silver, while serving as a constable, made inappropriate remarks to two women between 2021 and 2022. Allegedly, he discussed sexual preferences with one woman and made inappropriate inquiries to another, who had reported domestic violence. However, Silver’s defence argues that while he may have breached force policy, he did not commit a crime.
During the trial, one complainant described Silver as “jokey and creepy,” but his defence barrister, Susan Ferrier, emphasises that perceptions of being “creepy” differ from person to person and are not inherently criminal. Ferrier highlights delays in reporting the incidents and suggests the evidence lacks credibility, urging the jury to consider all context and scrutinise the facts presented.

The barrister also notes that Silver, who had no prior convictions, has consistently denied any wrongdoing, claiming he sought no sexual gratification and was in a committed relationship during the alleged incidents. The trial continues, and Silver denies all charges related to improper use of police power. Stay tuned for more updates as the case progresses.
