Big trouble in Wales! Stephen Williams, a 69-year-old from Bridgend, has been caught red-handed for illegally dumping over 1,800 tonnes of waste across Wales. As the head of two waste removal companies, Wenvoe Environmental Limited and Servmax Limited, Williams dumped waste without permits at sites in Caerphilly, Cowbridge, and Dolgellau.

Natural Resources Wales began investigating back in 2018. They found tonnes of mixed and contaminated textile bales piling up at these sites – all deemed a “high fire risk” by the fire service. Landowners were left with hefty bills, spending tens of thousands to clear the mess.

Despite being told to clear the waste and keep the sites clean, Williams chose to ignore the orders. For his antics, he’s been slapped with a suspended 21-month prison sentence, a requirement to attend rehabilitation activities, and an order to cough up £322,500 within three months.
The situation involved not just dumping, but also failing to operate with the necessary permits and mismanaging storage, leading to environmental and safety hazards. In Dolgellau, for instance, officers discovered deposits of clothing, carpets, mattresses and more.
Williams benefitted significantly, with financial gains from his offences estimated at £470,189. If he doesn’t pay up, he faces over three years in prison.
This saga sheds light on the importance of proper waste management and the repercussions of cutting corners. Let’s hope this isn’t a trend and that the environment and communities get the respect they deserve! 🌍
