🚗💥 A Shocking Accident Leaves Heartbreak Near Welshpool 🚗💥

A tragic road accident on the A483 has left the community reeling after Rhys Jenkins, a 41-year-old dad and rugby referee from Powys, lost his life. The heartbreaking incident happened while Rhys was travelling with his young son, Ioan, who sustained serious injuries.
Two Manchester-based brothers, Umar and Abubakr Yusaf, have been accused of causing this devastating crash through dangerous driving. Both deny the charges, with Umar, a locum optometrist, insisting there was no racing involved during their journey home.

Umar told the court he didn’t arrange to drive with his brother in a convoy, claiming road conditions and not reckless driving were to blame. He vehemently denies any dangerous or careless driving, stating his overtakes were safe and there was no intention to incite reckless behaviour from his brother.
Describing the aftermath of the crash emotionally, Umar recalled seeing Ioan unconscious and placing him on the grass verge, overwhelmed by the tragic scene before trying to return to help. Critically, Umar admitted he didn’t call emergency services, insisting he was in an autopilot state, acting without clear thought.
While the prosecutor suggested Umar was speeding to catch up with his brother, he disputed these claims, describing his drive as ‘normal’ despite the situation’s tragic outcome.
In court, character references praised Abubakr, depicting him as a man of integrity and significant community involvement.
The case continues at Mold Crown Court as the community awaits further developments with heavy hearts. Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding story. Our thoughts are with Rhys’s family and everyone affected by this tragic incident. 💔
