What a comeback! The Ospreys pulled off an incredible victory against Connacht, turning around a daunting 21-point deficit to win 24-21 in their European Challenge Cup match at Brewery Field. The first half looked bleak for the home side as Connacht dominated, with Finlay Bealham, Sean Jansen, and Jack Aungier all crossing the line. The Ospreys struggled against Connacht’s strong defence and precise attack, missing key penalties and losing lineouts.

But the second half was a different story! Whatever was said at halftime worked wonders as the Ospreys roared back onto the field with renewed vigour. The scrum transformed, driven by the introduction of Gareth Thomas, and suddenly Connacht were on the back foot.

Reuben Morgan-Williams ignited the comeback with a quick-tap penalty that led to Phil Cokanasiga’s try under the posts, making it 21-12 after Dan Edwards’ conversion. The pressure continued to build on Connacht, who struggled with discipline, culminating in a yellow card for Denis Buckley.

As Connacht were down to 14 men, the Ospreys capitalised. Ross Moriarty’s pick-up from the base of the scrum allowed Ryan Smith to barrel over the line, bringing the score to 21-19 with Edwards converting.
With the score tantalisingly close, the Ospreys sensed victory. Slick passing in tricky conditions saw Iestyn Hopkins finish in style for the bonus-point try. Edwards missed the difficult conversion, but the Ospreys held onto their lead, showing incredible grit in the final moments.
Connacht relentlessly attempted to breach the Osprey’s defence, but the home team’s determination saw them hold firm, sealing an unforgettable comeback victory. This thrilling performance bodes well as the Ospreys kick off their European campaign with a statement win.
