Traffic Updates
Residents in Wattsville and Brynawel are seeing red as lorry traffic takes over the B4251, earning the route the nickname “Wild West”! Local communities met up recently, voicing serious concerns about safety, noise, and pollution caused by the surge in lorry movements at all hours.
Traffic Updates

Councillors Jan Jones and Janine Reed are calling for urgent action, warning that things need to change “before someone is seriously hurt”. During a recent council meeting, it was revealed that lorries make up nearly 1 in 12 vehicles on this busy road. 🤯

Cllr Nigel George explained the road does have a 7.5-tonne weight restriction but noted it allows deliveries to local businesses. He highlighted that the proximity of the Nine Mile Point Industrial Estate means high lorry traffic is expected. The council’s already been busy with safety improvements like parking restrictions, warning signs, and traffic calming measures. 🚧

Still, residents aren’t happy – the new speed bumps are causing chaos with drivers swerving into the other lane to avoid them! 🤦‍♂️

Speeding and enforcing weight restrictions fall to the police, according to Cllr George. Although lorry traffic levels fluctuate with business activities, further traffic surveys aren’t on the cards due to current funding issues.
