A father has been sentenced after his aggressive behaviour left his children feeling “sad” and “anxious.” The shocking case, heard at Cardiff Crown Court, revealed how the father frequently lost his temper, resorting to punching, kicking, and shouting at his kids for being noisy. This violent and controlling behaviour left the children scared and retreating to their rooms in fear.
During the trial, it was revealed that one child frequently experienced fear and distress after being struck and kicked, causing pain and bruising. Another child recounted being hit regularly, leaving handprints and bruises. The eldest child even experienced the trauma of being dragged upstairs by her hair.
The children’s mother shared in court that life has become more positive since their father left the home. She described a transformed atmosphere — gone are the days of raised voices and slammed doors. The children are now happier, less anxious, and able to enjoy their childhood without fear.
While the father admitted to his wrongdoings, claiming poor emotional control following his military service, it offers little comfort to those affected. He’s now undergoing counselling and reportedly feels deep shame for his actions.
The judge sentenced the father to 16 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, alongside a rehabilitation requirement and a restraining order to protect the children. Though they miss him, the children now live in a safer, calmer environment, and for that, they’re grateful.
