Councils in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Medway, Carmarthenshire, and Telford also turned down nearly all claims.

The RAC’s recent investigation exposed a significant rise in claims, with 177 councils seeing a 91% jump over three years—so we’re not alone in our pothole woes. But what does this mean for our roads? 🚧

Motorists face a bumpy ride, paying the price for years of neglected upkeep. According to Simon Williams from RAC, the battle to restore our roads to good condition is massive. Around 40,000 claims were rejected in 2024 alone, leaving drivers high and dry.

Despite the gloomy outlook, there’s a glimmer of hope! Fewer claims were made in 2024 compared to the previous year. Plus, councils are now receiving record funding for road maintenance, tasked with preventing potholes before they even start.

This is the first time councils have to show how preventative measures will be undertaken, and with new multi-year funding plans, better road conditions could be on the way. 🛠️

Derbyshire saw the most dramatic rise in claims—an increase from 224 in 2021 to a staggering 3,307 in 2024! Glasgow and Oxfordshire also faced massive jumps in reports. With funding improvements underway, let’s hope we soon see smoother roads and happier drivers! 🌟
