📢 Community Rallies for Palliative Care at Local Hospital 🚨

Big news for Mountain Ash! Concerned locals have united, gathering 3,000 signatures to save the palliative care unit at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon. They fear losing this essential service could mean more travel for families in the Cynon and Merthyr Valleys if loved ones need end-of-life care.
So, what’s happening? 🤔 The health board has clarified that specialist palliative care was paused due to staffing issues, but don’t worry—end-of-life care is still being provided. The ward hasn’t operated as a specialist unit since early 2024 and was officially transitioned to focus on end-of-life and general healthcare last week.

A health board spokesperson has confirmed that only a small number require specialist palliative care, which will continue at Prince Charles, Royal Glamorgan, and Princess of Wales Hospitals.
Dr. Dom Hurford from the health board reassures everyone: “We’re committed to delivering safe end-of-life care at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon. The change affects only the specialist services for complex cases. Most people prefer to stay at home during their final days, and we’ll keep supporting those wishes.”
Safety first! This adjustment ensures that patients needing specialised care receive expert treatment at the appropriate facilities. The consultation process is on the cards, with more details expected in the upcoming weeks.
