💔 A Hull man’s life changed dramatically after a severe reaction to stopping the use of a common skin cream, leaving him bedridden and in excruciating pain. Callum Hobson, a 25-year-old dad, suffered from Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW), also known as Red Skin Syndrome, when he stopped using steroid cream prescribed for basic arm blemishes.

Callum’s struggle began when his skin became severely inflamed, oozing, and flaking all over, resulting in missed milestones, including the birth of his daughter, Maddy, in April 2025. His ordeal worsened rapidly, culminating in hospitalisation due to painful sores that flared up, with symptoms so severe Callum struggled to eat and lost six stone in weight. 😢

Initially prescribed the cream in December 2022, Callum was unaware of the dangers of long-term use and claims he wasn’t sufficiently warned by his doctors. By November 2023, when he stopped using the steroid cream, his condition significantly deteriorated, affecting every inch of his skin.
Callum has since spent a staggering £10,000 on various treatments to soothe his skin and is now fundraising with a goal of £5,000 more for advanced plasma therapy sessions, which he hopes will finally bring relief. He credits his incredible partner, Olivia, for supporting him physically and emotionally through the hardship, despite her own commitments.
Now, Callum is bravely sharing his story to raise awareness and help others potentially avoid similar situations. He remains hopeful, saying, “I’m almost there now, and with a few more treatments, I might be able to fully reclaim my life.”
