Exciting news for parents in Wales! The new Deputy First Minister has just announced plans to support families with young children. Households on Universal Credit with kids aged 0-6 could soon receive £10 a week per child. This initiative, named Cynnal, aligns with Plaid Cymru’s pledge to help reduce child poverty.

In her debut statement, Deputy First Minister and Minister for Social Justice, Sioned Williams, shared her commitment to setting up an expert group to bring this plan to life. Co-chaired by Steffan Evans from the Bevan Foundation, this team will design, deliver, and evaluate the programme. The goal? To provide evidence-based solutions to lift families out of poverty, inspired by successful schemes like Scotland’s Child Payment.

This pilot project, Taliad Plant Cymru, will begin in selected areas, helping to create a solid foundation for a broader rollout across Wales. Also on the agenda is an expansion of free childcare for kids aged nine months to four years. By offering up to 20 hours of funded care weekly for 48 weeks a year, Wales aims to be the most generous in the UK.
With a focus on fairness and equality, the Welsh government is dedicated to improving life chances for children and families. This innovative approach could mean a brighter, more prosperous future for many. Stay tuned for how this will unfold and transform lives in our communities! #Wales #ChildSupport #FamilyFirst #PlaidCymru #ChildcareRevolution
