🚤 Plans for a new boat depot in Cardiff Bay have been called off! 🎉 The proposal, which didn’t quite jive with the area’s residential vibe, faced strong pushback from locals. Concerns were mainly around noise disruptions and the clash with the intended residential and sports-focused feel of the Cardiff Peninsula.
Residents voiced their worries, with one saying, “I am unhappy that a working environment is going to be added so close to a residential area… adding another [boat hoist] will make our environment more unpleasant.”
The Cardiff Yacht Club also weighed in, questioning the necessity and mentioning potential safety issues for smaller boats and their sailing lessons. Their members fear it could impact club membership, sponsorship, and events. 🛥️
The boat depot plan included a new pontoon, boat hoist, offices in shipping containers, and parking facilities. It aimed to offer premium services for both leisure and commercial boaters, positioning Cardiff Bay as a maritime hub.
