There’s a buzz in Swansea as discussions unfold about shifting Welsh Government workers to a brand new city centre hub. 🏢 With advanced talks happening prior to the recent elections, the Swansea Council Labour leader Rob Stewart is keen for the plan to materialise. He’s got letters of intent from the previous Labour-led Welsh Government, hoping to secure tenants for this ambitious public sector hub.

But… not everyone’s convinced. 😬 The leader of the opposition, Cllr Chris Holley, is questioning how Swansea Council will effectively use the current Welsh Government offices near the M4 if it didn’t entirely work for the Welsh Government itself. 🤔

The new Plaid Cymru administration isn’t ruling anything out though. They say no decisions have been made yet, and any future accommodation moves will be considered carefully. 🏠🔍

This proposed move could see a wave of fresh faces in the city centre, boosting footfall with Welsh Government, UK Government, and local government staff making it their base. Rob Stewart is optimistic and sees this as a massive opportunity to keep investment flowing into Swansea, especially as the city now has three Plaid Cymru Senedd members. 📈💼

However, with a planning permission already in place since 2024, there’s hope that the former St David’s Shopping Centre site will soon be a hive of activity. 🏗️

As it stands, the Welsh Government employs around 5,700 staff across various sites, with their Penllergaer office only seeing about 10% attendance in March. Could a city centre shift change attendance patterns? Only time will tell! ⏳
