Heartbreaking Tale of Abuse: Justice vs. Time

Picture a nightmare stretching over decades. That’s been the harsh reality for Roy Hurhangee and many others. This shocking story hails from a prestigious private school where former teacher Iain Wares preyed on his pupils, leaving lasting scars.

Wares, compared to notorious figures like Jimmy Savile, faces charges of heinous abuse against 68 boys between 1968 and 1979. Now 86, he’s fighting extradition from South Africa to Scotland, while the brave victims speak out, demanding justice.
Among those was Roy, who endured both racial and physical abuse. Sent to Fettes College for a top-notch education, his dreams were shattered by Wares’ cruelty. The teacher whispered vile racial slurs, attacking Roy’s heritage and family. The trauma haunted Roy, affecting his ability to form relationships and show love.
As Roy reveals, “Abuse as a child never leaves you.” The scars, both emotional and physical, have followed him through life. Despite the years, he still longs for justice, hoping that age won’t shield Wares from punishment.
Support from others who faced similar abuse, like broadcaster Nicky Campbell, has encouraged Roy to share his story. Campbell, also a victim, labelled Wares as “Jimmy Savile Mark 2” due to his decades-long evasion from the law.
Campaigners are tirelessly working in South Africa, hoping to see Wares sentenced, either there or in Scotland. They wish to finally witness justice served as he stands in a Scottish court in handcuffs.
Roy’s courage in speaking out highlights the enduring impact of abuse. “If he goes to jail at 86, it will be tough, but many of us will have more faith in justice,” Roy says. The fight continues for those whose voices were silenced for too long.
Let’s stand by Roy and all survivors, echoing their call for justice and ensuring these stories are never hidden away again. 💔 #JusticeForRoy #EndAbuse #TimeForAccountability
