A 28-year-old support worker, Chloe Short, has been struck off the care worker register after being convicted of having a “sexualised kiss” with a vulnerable 15-year-old boy she was meant to support. The distressing incident came to light when messages and a video of Short kissing the boy were discovered, leading to legal and professional consequences.

The incident unfolded while Short was working for a support organisation aimed at helping families and children in need. Swansea Crown Court heard how she and the boy exchanged messages declaring love, culminating in behaviour described as “wholly inappropriate” for someone in her position of trust. This led to Short being dismissed from her role and reported to Social Care Wales (SCW).

Despite not engaging in the hearings and showing no remorse, she received a 10-month suspended prison sentence and now must complete rehabilitation and community service. Short will also be on the sex offenders register for ten years and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.

Her actions have not only brought her career to a halt, but have also cast a shadow over the trust placed in care workers everywhere. Let this serve as a stark reminder of the importances of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and maintaining professional boundaries.
