A night out turned into a nightmare in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, as a community football club reels from a shocking incident. Just after 1am on Saturday, a car reportedly ploughed into a group of people in the town centre, leaving one Notts footballer fighting for his life and two others injured. The crash followed an alleged altercation, with the driver abandoning the scene on foot.

Nottinghamshire Police have charged a 40-year-old man with five counts of attempted murder. Among those hit were three members of Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC, including the team’s manager. The club, deeply affected, expressed their heartbreak: “We are hoping and praying for our much-loved player in hospital. This is an awful time for us, and we ask for privacy and respect.”

Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information, dashcam, CCTV, or mobile footage to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, leading the investigation, thanked the public for their assistance and reiterated the need for privacy for the affected families.
Let’s hope for a swift recovery for those injured and send our thoughts to Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC during this difficult time. If you can help the investigation, please reach out to the authorities. Stay safe and look out for each other out there!
