Transport for Wales has faced a huge hit this September—£750,000 and counting! 😲 Why? Ongoing cable thefts have wreaked havoc on railway lines, bringing trains to a halt and frustrating travellers who depend on reliable services.

Traffic Updates
Starting September 19, a string of thefts occurred on the Rhymney line, starting between Bargoed and Caerphilly, with stolen signalling cables causing weekend disruptions as services were urgently repaired. Then, on September 22, 150m of overhead wires were vandalised near Tir Phil, escalating delays and piling on costs! 😤

And it didn’t stop there. More cables were pulled from the Aberdare line, adding to the chaos. Incidents on September 23 and 24 saw further thefts near Fernhill and between Aberdare and Abercynon. Each act of vandalism drags resources away from improving services for everyone. 🚆

Dan Tipper, from Transport for Wales, calls it out: “Every pound spent on repairs is a pound taken from community investments.” Let’s not take this lightly. Superintendent Andy Morgan of British Transport Police warns that these crimes aren’t just costly, they’re deadly. Damaged cables carry lethal loads of electricity – enough to cause serious harm without even touching them. ⚡
