Matthew Buckler and his family woke to discover their home on Caerphilly Close, near Eastbrook Station, was ablaze. Matthew recalls those frantic moments: “Some of us managed to escape, but others had to jump from windows. My daughter injured her ankle as she leapt off the roof.”

Harrowing images show the front door boarded up and windows coated in soot, with part of the roof collapsed. After living at their beloved house for eight years, the Bucklers’ home now stands uninhabitable.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded swiftly, extinguishing the fire with the help of crews from Penarth, Cardiff Central, and Barry. They confirmed a lithium-ion battery caused the accidental inferno.

Now, the family faces the daunting task of rebuilding their lives. Thankfully, they are currently staying with relatives, but with their home and belongings gone, they’re in desperate need of assistance.

To support them during this heart-wrenching time, a GoFundMe page has been set up with a target of £3,500. Chelsea Ann Buckler, reaching out on behalf of her family, expressed, “This tragedy has left us all in shock. Any contribution, no matter how small, can help us rebuild our lives.”
