Ryan Simon, 33, threw caution to the wind in Port Talbot by hitting 70mph in a 20mph zone! This car thief, already banned from driving, sent police on a nail-biting pursuit after pinching a car, fitting it with stolen plates, and making off with cash, a dash-cam, and more.
It all started when officers tried to stop the vehicle and narrowly avoided being hit themselves. Simon then ignored road rules, zoomed through a red light, and eventually collided with an unmarked police car. Miraculously, no one was hurt, but the danger was off the charts. Judge Hobson called it “sheer luck” that no lives were lost!
Already well-known to the justice system for a slew of driving-related offences, Simon now faces 18 months behind bars and a whopping four years and nine months driver’s ban. His rap sheet includes theft, aggravated vehicle taking, and driving while disqualified.
Since his time in custody, Simon has been tackling some personal demons, including issues with cocaine. He’s been making strides in drug and alcohol awareness programmes and even finding some solace working in the prison kitchen.
