π¦ Shocking Red Light Drama in Barry ππ₯

In a jaw-dropping moment caught on camera, a pickup truck, driven by Shae Reffel, ploughed through a red light, smashing into a family car in Barry. The terrifying incident happened at the Cardiff Road and Palmeston Road junction, when Reffel ignored the stop signal and sped through the intersection, leading to a crash involving a mother and daughter in a Ford Galaxy.

The impact of the collision sent the Galaxy into another vehicle, leaving the child shaken and both mum and daughter experiencing neck pain. Remarkably, Reffel stopped at the scene but was promptly arrested. Fortunately, he tested negative for both alcohol and drugs.
This event marks Reffel’s third serious offence in six years, adding to his previous convictions for unlawful wounding and dealing Class A drugs. At just 27, Reffel had been working with his step-father to establish a vehicle recovery business before this reckless decision landed him back in court.
Though remorseful, Reffel faced Judge Christopher Felstead, who highlighted the reckless nature of the incident, noting that the driver dashed through the lights “at speed” four or five seconds after they changed. Despite his history, the court took into account Reffel’s remorse and a positive pre-sentence report, opting for a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He must also complete a rehabilitation course, perform 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay Β£1,630 in prosecution costs. Plus, Reffel wonβt be behind the wheel anytime soon, as he’s banned from driving for 15 months.
It’s a stark reminder of the dangers and consequences of ignoring traffic signals. Stay vigilant and drive safely, folks! π·π
