✨ Exciting news for Cardiff! 🌟

More folks in the city are speaking Welsh than ever before! A new report highlights that 26.4% of Cardiff’s residents now speak the language, up from 23.8% in mid-2023. We’re talking about approximately 96,800 proud Welsh speakers in the capital!

Cardiff Council is thrilled with this achievement, noting it’s the highest percentage for any local authority in Wales. They’ve exceeded their five-year Welsh language goals a whole year ahead of schedule. 🎉
Council leader Chris Weaver couldn’t be prouder, stating, “There are now more Welsh speakers than ever in Cardiff.” He and his fellow councillors are celebrating this milestone. Bethan Proctor added, “The Welsh language ties us to our history, literature, and community life. As it thrives, so does our culture and uniqueness!”
Interestingly, the city’s Welsh language vibe is also pulling in tourists, offering a unique cultural experience. But not everyone is entirely satisfied. Some members of the city’s Liberal Democrats want more Welsh-medium schools to match the demand. They believe moving English-medium schools along the language continuum is vital.
While there’s a lot to cheer about, there’s still more work to do for Welsh to continue flourishing. 🌼 Let us know your thoughts in the comments! How do you feel about this linguistic revival? 🗨️
