Repeat Offenders: Joyriders Decimate Barriers Around Football Field Once More

Plough Colts Football Club in Swansea faces disruption yet again as joyriders continue to wreak havoc on their home ground at Cwmbwrla Park. Their pitch has been damaged multiple times this year, forcing games to be cancelled and leaving both junior and senior players frustrated. With the festive break in full swing, the club got another grim surprise this week: more damage to the pitches.

The persistent issue has led to the decision to install sturdy barriers around two pitches in early 2026. The plan includes 1.2m high spectator railings, complete with vehicle access gates, a pedestrian gate, and a bike inhibitor to keep unwanted visitors at bay.

Councillors Peter Black, Chris Holley, and Graham Thomas have secured funding for the much-needed upgrades. Not only will the park get the barriers, but there will also be a modern youth shelter with solar-powered lights and recumbent bikes, offering a community space away from the residential area and doubling as a viewing spot for the games.

Daniel Jenkins, club secretary, is hopeful that these changes will make a positive impact, noting that similar barriers have worked in other areas. The initiative aims to create a safer environment for local youth to enjoy football without disruption.

Everyone’s eager to see if this security boost will finally bring peace to the park and uninterrupted matches for Plough Colts. Fans, players, and the community alike are crossing their fingers for a smoother season ahead!
