🏉 Welsh rugby is at a crossroads, and former Wales lock Andy Moore has a plan! With a career spanning over three decades, including playing for Swansea RFC, the Wales national team, and coaching at South Gower RFC Youth, Moore’s insights carry a lot of weight. 🌟

As debates rage on about whether reducing the Welsh Rugby Union’s professional regions from four to three is the right move, opinions are divided. But Moore remains optimistic about the talent already present in Wales. He wants to ensure it has the right pathways to flourish. 👶🔜🏆

“This is a generational issue, and we’ve got one shot at this,” Moore says. He acknowledges the potential short-term challenges of removing a region but argues it’s about future-proofing Welsh rugby. “We need to make the pot bigger without hampering our future,” he asserts.
Moore fondly recalls his own playing days, especially the exciting derby matches against Llanelli and the intense years playing against English clubs. He believes Swansea and the community will thrive with the redevelopment of St Helen’s, and losing the Ospreys could hit hard. 🚧🏟️
He’s not convinced cutting clubs is the right answer. “Given the current information, losing the Ospreys would be an absolute tragedy,” he says. Moore highlights the socio-economic impact and the potential talent at a grassroots level being a significant concern. 🏉
Moreover, Moore’s keen eye on talent has led him to underscore the importance of bridging the gap for players between ages 18-23 to maintain their interest and participation. “We’ve got enough talent for four regions,” he insists, championing a robust grassroots foundation as the solution. 🎯
Now running Athlete Career Transition, Moore helps professional athletes plan for life post-sport. “The aim is to ensure elite sports people find meaningful careers once they hang up their boots,” he shares.
In a rugby nation as passionate as Wales, clarity and sound planning are crucial. Here’s hoping Moore’s voice continues to guide positive change. 🌟🗣️
