With 38% of these homeowners prioritising bungalows for their next move, it’s clear there’s a demand. Yet, options are limited, with only 1% of new homes being bungalows in 2024, compared to 11% back in 1990! What’s stopping them? The stress of moving, scarce suitable properties, and the desire to stay close to friends and family.
McCarthy Stone, a major developer, is taking note and adding more bungalows to their portfolio, acknowledging the importance of catering to this age group. Not only do bungalows offer independent living for older folks, but they also help free up larger homes for younger families.
